I can imagine some of you are chuckling away at the thought of a press release, memo, or instruction sheet making the world a better place, but please hear me out.
Life is made better in lots of little ways. From the anonymous thank you left on a desk, to a shared smile on the street, or the sublime pleasure of being able to do something after reading simple and clear instructions. Communications, specifically communications borne out of empathy, improve lives in lots and lots of ways.
So, even if not creating world peace, we still have a role to play in making lives better and— collectively— that's got to make the world just that little bit better.
The IABC Wellington events calendar this year will focus on building better futures through communications. It’s a focus on how we, as an organisation, can help our members to grow and develop in their careers to build that better future— benefiting members, employers, and (hopefully) the wider community.
Aotearoa New Zealand’s government is also looking to the future to improve the overall performance of the nation through its new “Wellbeing Budget”. It’s a novel approach to funding and economic measurement for our country and one that brings with it many questions. Luckily, IABC Wellington and Momentum have joined forces to bring you an exclusive Budget Day event with Newsroom’s Bernard Hickey. It’s one of our biggest events of the year, so be sure to get your tickets quick!
I hope to see you there and, until then, keep making the world a better place— in ways big and small.
Chris
