March 2019: Message from Immediate Past President
Thank you to all our members, sponsors and supporters for the opportunity to be President of IABC Wellington during 2018.
It was a rewarding challenge both professionally and personally. I'm grateful to have had the chance to lead this organisation with the support of a dedicated group of volunteer board members who work hard to deliver value for our members and community.
I'd like to thank Shaun Jones, past President of IABC Wellington, for his support and mentoring during 2018. I'd also like to thank our board members who have finished their service recently: Kathryn Healy, Membership Director; Samantha Fisher, Communications Director; Helen Kana, intern; and Amanda Woodbridge, Director at Large. They each made a valuable contribution and will be missed.
We had a strong year in 2018, with 14 events held (up from 13 in 2017). I'm particularly proud that we significantly improved the financial position of events, our largest expense. Income for events in 2018 totalled $15,530.70; expenditure was $15,649.41; leaving a shortfall of only $118. This compares to income for events in 2017 of $15,955.48; expenditure of $19,546.31, with a shortfall of $3,590.83.
I'm also proud that we improved the gender diversity of our speakers with 61% women in 2018, compared to 64% men in 2017 and 59% men in 2016. Last year, we increased our followers on Twitter by 16%, on Facebook by 40% and on LinkedIn by 55%.
Our chapter stood out internationally by winning Excellence in the Sponsorships/Partnerships category and Merit in Events at the 2019 IABC Chapter Management Awards in Long Beach, United States in February. We're very proud! I was lucky enough to have the chance to attend the awards ceremony in person, where I was honoured to represent our chapter and meet fellow IABC chapter leaders from around the world.
We are pleased to welcome several new Directors to the IABC Wellington board. This is our line-up for 2019, which was ratified at our February AGM:
